IIM Rohtak to offer study abroad programme

In order to cater to the changing trends and demands of aspiring business minds, the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Rohtak — the only IIM in the northern region —  is rolling out a foreign exchange programme for students from this year under its flagship post-graduate programme in management (PGPM) course.

The premier institute will initiate a study abroad programme from this session under which students will travel to Dubai or/and Singapore as a part of their PGPM curriculum.

“IIM Rohtak is going to launch a 12-day programme as a first step to doing a formal students’ exchange with business institutions abroad. By middle of next year we should have a formalised programme to facilitate the learning and understanding of global practices for our students,” says IIM Rohtak Director Prof Dheeraj Sharma during the institute’s first “meet and greet” outreach programme in New Delhi last week.

The objective of the “meet and greet” session, which received a good response, was to broaden its batch with students from diverse backgrounds. More so when the institute like most of the IIMs has received 90 per cent students from technical disciplines.

Thanks to the institute’s selection pattern more female students have showed interest in the fresh PGPM batch (2017-19). Of the total 1,47,733 students who applied at IIM Rohtak this year for the programme, 4,5557 were female candidates. The number of girls who qualified for the WAT and PI round also jumped to 2298 candidates— a rise of 98.27 per cent— as compared to last year’s 1159 candidates.

“As of date we are expecting about 40 girl students for 2017-19 batch and nearly all of them have telephonically confirmed their joining the IIM Rohtak. This implies that we will have at least 15 per cent of the total strength as girls this year as compared to only six per cent last year,” respond top officials of the institute.
