Jat doctors who had applied for MD admissions earlier under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) quota on Thursday approach the Supreme Court (SC) seeking clarification on the applicability of its verdict against Jat sub-quota.

They said they have been ranked under the OBC quota and stand a good chance of getting admission. But now, they face the prospect of being told that they aren't entitled to the quota.

They also sought an urgent hearing of their plea.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice HL Dattu said the hearing would be subject to the availability of one of the judges who struck down the Jat quota.

The judge was unwell, the Chief Justice said.

The SC is also likely to be approached by other Jat students affected by the court striking down the Jat sub-quota.

The students said the SC needs to clarify whether its verdict would be applicable to admissions this year or from the next year.

The SC on March 17 had set aside the notification issued by the erstwhile UPA government to include Jats in the Central list of OBC for according benefits of reservation to them.
