Jat stir spikes airfare between city, Delhi

CHANDIGARH:Airfare for flights between Delhi and Chandigarh soared in view of the proposed Jat agitation in the Delhi-NCR region on Monday.

Airfare for flights between Delhi and Chandigarh soared in view of the proposed Jat agitation in the Delhi-NCR region on Monday. However, the protesters called off the protest temporarily after their leaders had a discussion with Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

The airfare between Chandigarh and Delhi, which normally varies between Rs 3,000 and  Rs 4,500, had shot up to a minimum of Rs 6,027.   All major carriers, including Jet Airways, Air India, SpiceJet and Indigo, have increased the fare.

The airfare from Chandigarh to Delhi varied from Rs 6,027 to Rs 14,282 for Monday. The airfare between Chandigarh and Delhi by Jet Airways was Rs 6,027, Indigo Rs 7,848, SpiceJet at Rs 9,030 on March 20. Surprisingly, the rates from Delhi to Chandigarh were less. Jet Airways tickets were available at Rs 6,025; Indigo at Rs 6,236. The Delhi-Chandigarh airfare normally hovers around Rs 3,300-4,500.  But in view of the Jat protest, it hovered around Rs 6,025 to Rs 14,741.

 An official of a private airlines said the prices soared suddenly as a large number of people booked the tickets at the last moment, otherwisem tickets were sold at much lower prices.
