Chandigarh, October 15
‘Ye zabr bhi dekha hai tareekh ki nazron ne, Lamhon ne khta ki hi sadiyon ne saza payi..’ The lyrical intent of Urdu poet Muzzaffar Razmi’s couplet is the veritable essence of Hindi play ‘The Last Salute’, conceptualised, evolved and staged under the aegis of Bollywood icon Mahesh Bhatt, who also graced the production with his special appearance at the Tagore Theatre here today.
The audience was put to inconvenience with inordinate delay of 50 minutes for the start of the play as the star reached late at the venue.
The bold play scripted by Rajesh Kumar based on a historical incident and book by Iraqi journalist Muntadhar Zaidi, who made headlines after he hurled a shoe on George W Bush, the then president of USA.
The play was presented by the Home Land Group under the direction of Arvind Gaur. The play used narratives interspersed with chorus songs by ornate poetry legends like Sahir Ludhianvi, Faiz Ahamed Faiz and Habib Jalib. — OC
