Migrant woman dies of monkey bite

MOHALI: A young migrant woman, putting up at Sohana village, died after being reportedly bitten by a monkey here.

A young migrant woman, putting up at Sohana village, died after being reportedly bitten by a monkey here.

According to Inspector Pawan Kumar, SHO of the Sohana police station, the woman, identified as Sonam, was admitted to the hospital after being bitten by a monkey on February 21.

“She died at the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh,” said the Inspector, adding that the postmortem had been conducted.

“She died of monkey bite, according to the medical staff. Her viscera has been sent for further chemical tests,” said Inspector Pawan Kumar.

Sonam’s death due to monkey bite is probably the first such incident in the town.

Meanwhile, the police said they were verifying the age of Sonam.

“Sonam had eloped with Ajay Kumar, who claimed that they got married later and had also apprised the Allahabad High Court of it. He claimed that Sonam was a major while according to her parents, she was 17,” said Inspector Pawan Kumar.

He said a case of kidnapping had been registered against Ajay Kumar at a police station at Unao in Uttar Pradesh.

“We have informed the UP Police about Ajay Kumar. Our investigations are also on,” said Inspector Pawan Kumar.
