Dehradun, February 22

Mock drills were organised in various districts of Garhwal and Kumaon as part of disaster preparedness.

Amit Negi, Secretary, Disaster Management, said as part of the drill today, a person seriously injured in a simulated natural disaster situation was brought to Dehradun from Rudraprayag on helicopter. The injured person was taken to the Doon Hospital in an ambulance. The mock drill in Dehradun yesterday was successful.

IGP GS Martolia said the rehearsal was important to keep the forces fully prepared to meet the disaster-linked exigencies. He, however, admitted that there was always a scope of improvement.

Chief Development Officer, Dehradun, Bansidhar Tiwari said the shortcomings found in yesterday’s mock drill would be worked out to ensure improvement in the overall action. Major Gen VK Dutta (retd) from the National Disaster Management Authority, Secretary Arvind Singh Hayanki and Additional Secretary, Disaster Management, C Ravishankar supervised the drills across the state.
