Dr. Anju Soni, who works for the National Health Service (NHS) in London, has won the Annual Poster Prize at the Royal College Faculty of Addictions Annual Conference 2019 on her research into the misuse of Gabapentinoids such as Pregabalin in UK.  Gabapentinoids (primarily gabapentin and pregabalin) are indicated for epilepsy and neuropathic pain. Pregabalin is also used for anxiety disorder. Off-label use has included alcohol use disorders, restless-leg syndrome, migraine, menopausal flushes, mania and bipolar disorder. This study helped establish the prevalence of the use of and the reasons for prescribing gabapentinoids.

The Royal Colleges are the main medical institutions of doctors in the UK which have received royal patronage and the permission to use the prefix Royal. They grant statutory licenses and have regulatory and disciplinary powers over their members. — TNS
