Waste Warriors and the Dalanwala Residents Welfare Association celebrated Republic Day by cleaning up streets in Dalanwala area.

Over 100 volunteers, including residents, children, members of the Residents Welfare Associations, representatives from Welham Girls School and Nagar Nigam and volunteers of Apna Parivar, participated in the clean-up drive.

Gloves, bags and litter grabbers were distributed to all participants. The open plot on Inder Road was the main focus of the clean-up drive. MLA Raj Kumar graced the event with his presence and expressed his appreciation. He promised to support the Dalanwala Transformation Project.

Recyclable and non-recyclable waste was collected in separate bags and organic waste, including leaves, was taken for composting. Approximately 25 bags of garbage were collected. The open plot and Inder Road will now be maintained on a daily basis to ensure cleanliness.

Whilst the clean up drive was in full swing, CEO Jodie Underhill led another clean-up session with 12 students and three teachers from Maple Bear School. The children enthusiastically cleaned gutters on the road outside their school using litter grabbers.

They expressed concern about the open plot being used for dumping at the end of their street and Waste Warriors pledged to help them transform it.

Dr Mahesh Bhandari, President of the Residents Welfare Association, said, “We are pleased with the outcome of the event and support the Prime Minister’s campaign for a clean India. Waste Warriors have been working hard over the past few months to clean up Dalanwala and we appeal to local residents to show their support by not littering and maintaining the perimeter of their properties.”

A briefing session about recycling and the importance of cleanliness was given to students of RK Public School and Sthuler Heim School.
