No let up in rain fury in U’khand

In the wake of incessant rain, the Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway continued to remain blocked on  Sunday. The administration is making all efforts to clear the debris accumulated on the highway following landslides. The bridge linking Garudchatti with Kedarnath was also washed away. 

Although no loss of life was reported from anywhere, two persons were injured in rain-related incidents. Godavari Devi (45) was injured when she slipped while collecting fodder at Gotari in Dharchula tehsil of Pithoragarh district. In another incident in the district, Priyanka 

(17) was injured after a stone fell on her head. 

A large number interconnecting rural roads also remain blocked. Most rivers are in spate. In Pithoragarh, the Kali river has touched 888.90-m mark while the water levels in the Gori and Saryu rivers have reached 605.10 m and 447.30 m, respectively. 

The water level in the Ganga in Haridwar has touched 292.55-m mark, just two metre away from the danger mark. The level in the Alaknanda river in Rudraprayag has reached 622.70-m mark and in the Mandakini, it has touched 622.25-m mark.

The Sharda river in Champawat district has touched 219.45-m mark. In Bageshwar district, the water levels in the Saryu and Gomti rivers have reached 866.05 m and 863.35 m, respectively. 

Several rural roads also remain blocked in the region. As many as 23 roads are blocked in Chamoli, 22 in Tehri, 10 in Pauri district, six in Nainital and three in Bageshwar district.

The Met Department, Dehradun, has forecast heavy rain, particularly in isolated places, in Kumaon in the next 72 hours. It has advised pilgrims and tourists to remain alert.
