Jalandhar, March 29

Even as security cover of almost all politicians in the state has been pruned over the past few weeks, police officials continue with the provision of 24x7 protection to the Badals-owned Indo Canadian Transport Company office here.

Four policemen remain deployed bang in front of the office of the company in a vehicle that remains stranded round-the-clock. Since the police personnel work in two shifts, there are at least eight officials drawing a salary of not less than Rs 2 lakh a month exclusively serving this office on a daily basis, which is situated about 200 metres from the main bus stand which has a police post too.

Only around 100 to 200 NRIs or their kin board the Delhi airport-bound buses from here. Though most NRIs have moved back and the occupancy of the buses is lower these days, the vigil remains intact.

While company staff maintains that they have their own private security and have not sought any police cover, the Jalandhar Commissionerate continues to extend its benevolent gesture towards them. Also while four security men and gypsy attached with Jalandhar MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh lies withdrawn, the special treatment continues for the company owned by the Badals, who are now out of power in the state.

Jalandhar Police Commissioner Arpit Shukla responded, “We are still in the process of withdrawing security. Review for the same is still on.”
