Panipat, March 25

Members of the Haryana United Schools Association (HUSA) have decided to go to court against the state government as it was not making reimbursement to private schools for admitting students as prescribed under the RTE Act.

Interacting with mediapersons after a meeting at Sir Chhotu Ram Heritage School here today, HUSA president Vijender Mann alleged that the Union government had passed the RTE Act, under which the reimbursement provisions had been laid down. However, the state government had not paid them a single penny since 2014, he asserted.

“Schools can take annual charge or annual development charge from students under Section 158 of the RTE Act, but it should not be more than 50 percent of tuition fee. It has been decided by the High Court too,” he added. Maan said it was not mandatory to prescribe only NCERT books to the students. As per the Rule 9 and 10 of the Haryana Education Rules-2003, any book could be prescribed up to Class VIII, he added.

Meanwhile, elections to the governing body of HUSA were held here today. Members have nominated Vijender Maan as president of the association for another three years.
