Shimla, December 9

The Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) authorities today asked veteran non-teacher employees’ leader Waryam Singh Bains to put his protest dharna on hold up to March 31, 2015.

Bains is a former deputy registrar and several times elected member of the Executive Council of HPU and is protesting anomalies in Pension Payment Order (PPO).

In a written communiqué, the registrar of HPU informed Bains that the matter of counting of the secretariat pay for the purpose of retirement benefits was under active consideration of the university authorities and the HPU was also considering the grievances regarding the payments of arrears etc.

Giving a call to retirees to come under one banner to fight for their rights, Waryam Singh said: “Being an elected representative of non-teaching employees in the Executive Council for a long period, it is my duty to ensure that the decisions taken in the EC are implemented.”

Waryam had warned the university authorities before his retirement on November 30 last that he would sit on dharna in case secretariat pay was not included in the PPO and other dues such as gratuity, commutation of pension and leave encashment were not cleared at the time of retirement.
