City legislator Madan Kaushik inaugurated a plantation drive organised by the Rudra Yagna Samiti and the Pragat Bharat Sanstha here yesterday. Mass plantation would be done in the city periphery under the campaign.
Kaushik planted a sapling at the Sadbhawna Ganga ghat. He said human life and ecology could only be saved by a mass plantation drive. It was imperative to maintain a balance of water, green cover, land and air he stated.
The MLA lauded the efforts of both organisations. It was a commendable initiative that would ensure mass awareness about environment conservation and an increase in the green cover, Kaushik added.
Sapt Rishi division BJP president Anirudh Bhatti said for the past one decade the two organisations had been working for environment conservation. The sapling plantation drive would help in increasing the green cover in the city periphery, which is fast degrading.
Ward councillor Kanhaiya Khewadiya said similar drives needed to be carried out in all 30 wards of the Municipal Corporation, as it would help in generating mass awareness towards nature conservation.
The Rudra Yagna Samiti and the Pragat Bharat Sanstha had also been helping poor students by distributing free books and other study material to them, Khewadiya added.
President of the Rudra Yagna Samiti Kamlesh Kandpal said with support from society they had been able to support the needy and now, the plantation drive would contribute to environment conservation.
Sudip Banerjee, president of the Pragat Bharat Sanstha, said they were also involved in cow conservation and free vocational education training to youths. Saplings of nutritious and herbal plants were planted at tjhe Sadbhawna ghat on the occasion.
BJP district vice-president Vikas Tiwari, Dr Ashwani Chauhan, Sarva Sewa organisation president Ashish Jain, Sachi Gahaur, Rakhi Sajwan, Anil Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Sanjay Verma, Sant Ram, Lal Mata Temple manager Bhakt Durga Das and Ram Chandra Pandey were present.
