The police detained parents of a number of students seeking admission when they under the banner of the Abhibhawak Sangh tried to disturb a meeting and a press conference of the representatives of private schools at a restaurant here today. They were produced in the local court, which released them on bail.

The representatives of various private schools under the banner of the Haryana Joint School Association organised a meeting at a restaurant here. They had invited mediapersons to apprise them of the matter. The District Education Officer (DEO), Sonepat, had issued a notice to private schools under rule 134 A regarding admission to students.

However, when office-bearers of the Abhibhawak Sangh came to know about the meeting, they gathered outside the restaurant and started raising slogans. Three or four women protesters went in the restaurant and entered into a heated exchange of words with the representatives of the schools’ association.

The police, sensing the situation may get out of control, arrested a number of Abhibhawak Sangh activists, including women. Later, they were taken in a police bus to the court, which released them on bail.

Association president Bijender Maan said the DEO had sent a notice but the officer was not aware about the government rules relating to admission. He added instead of solving the problem, the government was complicating the matter.
