Chandigarh, March 20

The issue of the poor sanitary condition in the city rocked the MC House meeting today.

Cutting across party lines, the councillors targeted city Mayor Asha Jaswal for failing to improve sanitary conditions in the city.

Deputy Mayor Anil Dubey said as per record, there were around 70 sanitation workers in his ward at Mauli Jagran but hardly 25-30 of them turned up to clean the area.

Echoing similar sentimenst, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) councillor Davesh Moudgil said the officials should also inform the members about the norms of deployment of the staff for cleaning the area. He said there was no regular cleaning by the company engaged by the MC, especially in the southern sectors.

Another BJP councillor, Bharat Kumar said, the staff deployed by the company were emotionally blackmailing leaders to get a satisfactory report in their favour, which was not acceptable.

Bharatiya Janata Party councillor Kanwarjeet Singh also said poor sanitary condition prevailed in his ward (Sector 45 and Burail).
