Haridwar, April 10

Former Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Advani today arrived in Haridwar to immerse the ashes of his wife Kamla Advani in the Ganga at Har-ki-Pauri.

Advani was accompanied by his son Jayant Advani, daughter Pratibha Advani, relatives and family friends. Jayant Advani immersed the ashes under the observation of  teerth purohits and pundits, led by Pt Neeraj  Sharma. During the ritual, Advani stood silent, constantly looking at the Ganga and adjacent mountainous terrain.

Union Minister for Ganga Rejuvenation and Water Resources Uma Bharti, Haridwar MP Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Leader of the Opposition  in Uttarakhand Ajay Bhatt were present.

Advani’s entourage left in a bus for Rishikesh at 11 am, where he offered prayers to the Ganga at the Parmarth Niketan Ganga ghat. Parmarth Niketan Ashram spiritual ideologue Swami Chidanand Muni and Swami Avdeshanand Giri Maharaj accompanied Advani. Swami Chidanand also showed an old photograph of Advani and his wife when they had  visited the Parmarth Niketan Ashram a few years ago.

Advani planted a Rudraksh sapling near Lord Shiva’s idol on the ashram premises in his wife’s memory.

Kamla Advani died on April 6 following a heart attack. She was cremated at the Nigam Bodh ghat in Delhi.
