Dehradun, May 1

Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat has expressed unhappiness over the efforts being undertaken to douse the raging forest fires in the state.

Talking to mediapersons on the sidelines of the May Day function held at the Congress headquarters in Dehradun today, Harish Rawat said his suggestions on curbing forest fires were also still to be implemented, he lamented.

He also raised the demand to declare Uttarakhand a fire disaster affected state.

The villagers who suffer physical losses due to the forest fires must be compensated at par with the state government employees, he said.

Meanwhile, he said he was ready to go to jail over the issue of the CD sting. He said it was a part of a conspiracy against him and “now the CBI investigation into it amply vindicated the theory.”

‘BJP responsible for turmoil’

Earlier, Harish Rawat while addressing party workers at Rajeev Bhavan, said the BJP-led NDA government is responsible for political turmoil in Uttarakhand.

Rawat said the state government had drafted policies for the upliftment of weaker sections of the society. He said his government launched cashless health scheme for below poverty line people of the state.
