Thousands of students enrolled in private schools having temporary recognition of the Haryana State Education Board (HSEB) got a reprieve as their application forms for the board exams for 2016 were allowed to be uploaded.

However, the board said the same could be submitted along with Form Two required for fulfilling the norms for such schools. As it was the last day today, the schools submitting the application form after this date will have to pay Rs 1000 per form as late fee.

“The fate of around 30,000 students, who do not fulfil the recognition criteria hung in balance till yesterday as the board did not allow such schools to upload the forms for the exams of class X and plus two,” said Gaurav Parashar, general secretary of the Private Schools Association.

As many as 150 such schools in the district had failed to submit Form Two which was compulsory for recognition and affiliation with the board and this had prompted the authorities to stop such schools to upload their application forms for the exams.

The last date for submission of the form which was earlier fixed for July 20 and July 27 was later revised to August 3. While a majority of private schools do not fulfil the norms, they have been allowed to upload the forms by submitting Form Two as a last minute relief.

Ramesh Dagar, president of the association, asked the government to resolve the issue on a permanent basis as the norms laid by the department for recognition were tough and impractical. The problem will erupt again next year if norms are not relaxed, he added. Presently, the district has over 400 private schools.

A school must have an acre of land, building having rooms of 24x 18 feet, well educated and trained staff, computer and science laboratory besides NOC from the departments of Fire, PWD and seats for EWS students.

DEO Ram Kumar said that the applications were received with the Form two only.
