Faridabad, October 1

A flyover on National Highway-2 here was inaugurated by Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment KP Gurjar here yesterday.

It is the second in the series of six flyovers the NHAI is set to provide to the city as part of the six-laning project on the highway, also known as Mathura Road, by the end of January next year.

Revealing that the entire project costing around Rs 3,000 crore was running several months behind the schedule, sources in the NHAI said the two flyovers at Bata Chowk and the Badkhal crossing had come up after a delay of six months. But Gurjar claimed that the work had been expedited and the authorities would try to open all the remaining four flyovers within the given deadline. The six-laning project of the National Highway was launched in October 2012.

Gurjar said while the project would make the travel signal-free, it would also help the city achieve smart status in view of the improved facility of road transportation.

The first flyover in this series was opened at the Bata chowk on September 20, which he said, had eased traffic congestion to quite an extent. He said the state government had directed the authorities concerned to speed up the work of cleanliness and road repairs in the city. However, opposition leaders have charged the ruling BJP government and its leaders of taking credit for the development works launched during the previous government.
