Residents of Ramban district, especially Batru village in the Pogal-Paristan tehsil, have been eagerly waiting to welcome Chief Justice Tirath Singh Thakur on his maiden visit to his hometown after assuming charge in the Supreme Court.

Since the finalisation of his tour programme, state judicial officers led by Principal District and Sessions Judge, Ramban, Kalpna Revo, legal fraternity, civil and police administration and security forces have been busy in making arrangements.

Ukhral is decked up to greet him as almost every government and private building is painted. The 8-km Maggerkot-Ukhral link road has been repaired and blacktopped and all roadside electricity poles painted.

“His father Justice DD Thakur had transformed the obscure and backward area as soon as he became a minister in Sheikh Abdullah government. He had got the Maggerkot-Ukhral single-lane link road laid, a hospital and schools constructed and the area electrified,” said Umesh Singh, a cousin of Justice TS Thakur.

“We want a degree college sanctioned in 2014, double-laning of the Maggerkot-Ukhral link road, filling of vacant posts at Ukhral hospital, construction of three mini-hydel projects on Pogal nullah and BSNL connectivity,” said Niranjan Singh, a relative of Justice Thakur.
