Dehradun SSP Sadanand Datte met local residents and members of various organisations at the police station in Mussoorie today to discuss ways to control traffic.

The SSP heard the views of town residents and said he would try to incorporate them in the plan being developed for the smooth movement of traffic on the Mall Road.

Senior citizens raised the issue of vehicles, especially motorcycles, being driven fast on the Mall Road that had resulted in injuries to pedestrians in the past. Members of the Hotel Association of Mussoorie, Traders Association and other social organisations demanded a ban on the movement of vehicles on the Mall road after 6 pm. They also raised the issue of illegal parking on the Mall Road. Deployment of additional police force during school hours when students move on the Mall road was also discussed. They also demanded a permanent unit of the SDRF at Mussoorie to handle serious accidents. They sought verification of people who are from other places but were residing in the town for th past several years.

The SSP said vehicles would not run on the Mall Road after 6 pm. He assured the people of looking into the issues raised at the meeting and finding solutions soon. He added a vending zone had been identified and vendors on the Mall Road would be relocated there soon.

Municipal Council president Manmohan Singh Mall said the traffic situation had worsened due to local people, including hoteliers, who were not interested in following the law of the land. The SSP said he would meet residents of the town in a few days again and work out a suitable traffic plan. He would also discuss law and order issues.
