The state government will soon open a college and a university focusing on the study of Sanskrit language only. This was announced by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar during a function organised at Gurukul Indraprastha here today.

The CM said his government would open a Sanskrit college at Mansa Devi Complex in Panchkula and a Sanskrit university at Mundri village of Kaithal in the near future.

He said efforts would be made to bring recognition of the degrees of ‘shastri’, ‘acharyan’ and ‘shiksha shastri’ on a par with that of BA, MA and BEd.

Claiming that while there was a need to focus on the traditional systems of education and training, he said Gurukuls had played a vital role in preparing youths for national-level campaigns, including the freedom movement, as these institutions imbibed required qualities and character in many freedom fighters.

The government would also open at least 1,000 ‘vyayamshalas’ (exercise halls) in the rural parts of the state to promote physical fitness, the CM said.

About the ongoing ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ drive, he said the child sex ratio in the state, which shot up to 922 in the month of January this year, would be improved to at least 950 soon.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Dev Vrat also addressed the gathering.
