Dehradun, February 23

Uttar Pradesh Irrigation Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav today said a metro train between Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh and Haridwar in Uttarakhand had been planned and both governments had agreed on the project in principle. A memorandum of understanding would be signed between the two states shortly for construction of the Jamrani dam, he added.

Yadav, while addressing mediapersons in Dehradun today the NITI Aayog had become a political body and little funds are being provided to non-BJP ruled states in the country. The NITI Aayog was discriminating against non-BJP ruled states in sanctioning funds.

Yadav said the Samajwadi Party (SP) would start the Mulayam Sandesh Yatra in the first week of April as part of preparations for the Assembly elections in Uttarakhand next year. The yatra would highlight the commendable works done by the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, Yadav held talks with Chief Minister Harish Rawat and the two discussed at length all pending issues between the two states. It was decided at the meeting to ensure that the Uttar Pradesh canals that originate and end in Uttarakhand were transferred to the state. He said there were 28 such canals in Haridwar district and nine in Udham Sing Nagar district.

It was also decided at the meeting that Uttar Pradesh would allow Uttarakhand to undertake water sports in the upper Ganga canal. The decision holds importance as Uttarakhand is to host the 2018 National Games.

Uttarakhand Irrigation Minister Yashpal Arya, Chief Secretary Shatrughan Singh and Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary Deepak Singhal attended the meeting.
