Ambala, July 19
The Ambala police have recovered the CCTV footage of the bus in which Harjeet, who was beaten up a few days ago in Mullana, was travelling from Ambala to Yamunanagar. The police said Harjeet in his video appeared to be genuine.
On Monday, the police arrested two accused after a video showing Harjeet – a truck driver from Tarn Taran in Punjab being thrashed went viral on social media. He is yet to appear before the police to record his statement.
While two accused, Kamaljeet and Abhay, have been arrested, their accomplice Bhura is at large. Harjeet was on his way from Ambala to Yamunanagar by bus on Saturday when he allegedly had a spat with the trio. When the bus reached Mullana, they thrashed Harjeet and fled.
After Harjeet’s video went viral, Kamaljeet released a video alleging Harjeet was drunk and had abused and slapped a child from his village.
On the other hand, Harjeet released a video on Monday claiming that Kamaljeet, who was moving briskly in the bus, collided with some women and also hit his turban. Kamaljeet called up other accused and beat him up near Mullana.
“The CCTV footage suggests that the claims of Harjeet are true. He was beaten up by the trio in the bus. The matter is being investigated and efforts are being made to nab the third accused as well,” SHO, Mullana, Mehar Singh said.
Meanwhile, the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee has come out in support of Harjeet. HSGMC chief Jagdish Singh Jhinda said, “The committee extends its support to the victim and it will provide him all legal help in this case.”
