Sirsa, June 27

SHO of the City Police Station at Dabwali, Anil Kundu, lost his life in a road accident near Moriwala village on the Sirsa – Hisar road, in the wee hours today.

As per police sources, Kundu (33), was on his way to Madhuban in Karnal to participate in a training workshop, when the Maruti Swift he was driving met with an accident. The car struck a stray bull and then hit the boundary wall of a gurdwara at Moriwala village between 1.30-2am today.

After initial investigations, the police believe Kundu’s car was first hit by some unidentified vehicle after which it hit a bull and then rammed into the wall.

Such was the impact of the accident that the bull was found lying dead near the accident site, and the wall in which the car had rammed into, was completely damaged.

A case has been registered against an unknown vehicle owner at Ding Police Station in Sirsa. Anil Kundu joined the police as a Sub-Inspector and initially served at Karnal before he was transferred to Sirsa in September 2014.

As the news of Kundu’s death spread, a number of police officials including DSPs and SHOs gathered at the general hospital where his dead body was brought for the post-mortem exam.

Police sources said Kundu belonged to Kaluwas village of Jind and is survived by his parents, wife and two children.

He was cremated in the evening with full police honours at Karnal. The cremation was attended by Sirsa SP Ashwin Shenvi and several other police officials from Sirsa and Karnal. Shenvi said, “This was a very unfortunate incident and we have lost a very dedicated and committed police officer in Anil Kundu.”
