Once a drug addict, Gursewak Singh (25) of Shahpur village wants to help the district police in curbing drug menace in Ambala Cantonment.

Interacting with mediapersons here on Monday, father of a nine-month-old boy, repented having wasted lakhs in buying drugs.

“I started consuming drugs last year when I was in college. At one point, I became an addict. After treatment, I stopped consuming drugs four months ago. I want other people to stop consuming drugs. I request kin of addicts to help them instead of tagging them as addicts and leaving them alone,” he said.

“Drugs are easily available. You only need to call up and they will deliver it at your desired location. I have used heroin, chura post and opium, but have no links with any gang or peddlers. I used to buy it for myself. If the police want, I am ready to help them in making Ambala drug-free. At the same time, I am worried as I do not want to get into any trouble,” he added.

He alleged that some policemen had links with peddlers. He alleged that private hospitals had been minting money by selling de-addiction medicines at exorbitant rates.

“The government should open drug de-addiction centres and provide medical cards to patients so that they get medicines free at hospitals,” said the college dropout, now a farmer.

“Drug abuse is rampant in Ambala Cantonment. It is impossible that the police are unaware of peddlers. The police and government must take action against drug peddlers,” said Onkar Singh, an INLD leader who accompanied Gursewak.

“Drug peddlers are being identified and action will be taken against them as per the law. Efforts are being made to curb this menace,” said Ambala Cantonment DSP Ram Kumar.
