Faridabad, October 19
The district administration has started the process for the construction of the second indoor sports complex in the city.
Though the construction of the first indoor stadium — launched way back in 2012 — is still not complete, the authorities concerned hope that sportspersons would be able to avail both the facilities next year.
Stating that the new sports complex, which will be built in sector 31 here, will the thrown open within a year, Rajeev Sharma, XEN, HSVP (Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran), said that it would be an indoor complex having facilities for various games.
Being an indoor one, the players here would be able to train or compete without any hindrance from sun or rain, he said.
The total cost of the project is Rs 19.83 crore and is scheduled to be completed within 12 months. The tenders of the work have been released and work on the ground is expected to begin any time, he said.
The project will be carried out under the Chief Minister announcements programme. Union Minister for State Krishan Pal Gurjar had also recently claimed that Faridabad would be the first city to have two indoor stadiums.
On the other hand, the first indoor stadium, being built at the sector 12 sports complex here by the HSVP, has not been completed even after six years. Though the project was taken up in 2002, the work remained suspended till 2012.
Admitting that work of the indoor stadium at sector 12 was running well behind schedule, Mary Masih, District Sports Officer, said that only the Haryana Shahri Vikas Pradhikaran officials would be able to tell when it would be ready. “The civil work of the stadium will be over in December and it is likely to the opened before March 31, 2019,” said the XEN, HSVP.
