Gadkari seeks a month to find solution

The Union Ministry of Transport has assured city residents of addressing their long-pending demand of toll free passage. The ministry sought a month's time to find a solution to address the issue.

According to sources in the district administration, a meeting on two important issues–toll free passage for the city residents and an illegal cut adjoining the toll plaza--was held under the chairmanship of Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari in Delhi today.

Karnal MP Ashwani Chopra along with Yudhvir Singh Malik, Chairman, NHAI, Dr Chander Shekhar Khare, Deputy Commissioner, Panipat, officials of the NHAI and representative of L&T company attended the meeting.

The sources said a long discussion on the demand for toll free passage for the city residents was discussed in the meeting and Gadkari assured the delegates of resolving the issue soon. He sought one month to find the solution.

Besides, he also asked the NHAI officials to close the cut in the highway adjoining the toll plaza that residents and members of various organisations had made some days ago and was inaugurated by the MP.

Members of various social organisations, representatives of various resident welfare societies had raised the issue for seeking exemption for Panipat residents from paying toll. They had also submitted a memorandum to the MP in this connection some days ago.

The Deputy Commissioner said both issues were discussed in the meeting.
