GURUGRAM: Over 5 lakh voters will decide the fate of 202 candidates contesting from 35 wards for the MC elections tomorrow.

Over 5 lakh voters will decide the fate of 202 candidates contesting from 35 wards for the MC elections tomorrow. Out of 546 booths, 228 have been declared sensitive and hypersensitive.

“We will ensure peaceful and smooth polling. All wards have been divided area-wise and patrol teams have been directed to keep strict vigil. Additional forces have also been sought from neighbouring districts to ensure we don’t face staff crunch,” said Sandeep Khirwar, CP.

Meanwhile, the local administration has appointed 1,794 polling officers and got 1,600 EVMs for polling. In 546 booths, there will be a presiding officer along with 56 supervisors and 51 duty magistrates.

“Specific instructions like number of vehicles allowed by candidates or valid ID cards for voting have already been issued and circulated,” said Vinay Pratap Singh, Deputy Commissoner.

49 in fray for Barara civic body elections

Ambala: The stage is set for the Municipal Committee (MC) elections in Barara. Over 16,680 voters will exercise their right to franchise in 15 booths to elect 15 MC members tomorrow. There are 49 candidates in fray for 15 seats.

Of the 15 wards, ward No. 1 and 15 are reserved for Scheduled Castes, ward No. 2 and 10 for Backward Castes, ward No. 8 for Scheduled Caste woman, ward No. 4, 5, 6 and 12 reserved for women while the remaining wards (3, 7, 9, 11, 13 and 14) are for the general category.

Barara SDM Girish Kumar said, "Ample arrangements have been made to ensure a peaceful election. The polling will be held from 7 am to 5 pm and the results will be declared the same day". — TNS
