Rohtak, December 16

A 42-year-old man allegedly killed his wife, cut her body into several pieces and threw them at different locations in order to conceal her identity and evade arrest.

A police investigation revealed that the woman had a live-in relationship with her husband’s brother-in-law and had been staying with him at Kaithal since June. On November 13, she came to her husband’s home in the Gandhi Nagar locality of Rohtak town to take woollen clothes. Rajkumar, aka Raju, and Geetanjali had a quarrel and he banged her head against a wall and she died instantly.

The next day, Rajkumar allegedly cut her body into pieces with a saw and threw them at different places apparently in a bid to conceal the crime and her identity and evade arrest.

The police found a part of the torso in bushes at Makdauli village in the district on November 22. Another part of the woman’s body (lower back) was found in the old sugar mill area on the outskirts of Rohtak town on December 11. The post-mortem reports indicated that both parts of the body were of the same woman.

“We started looking into cases of women having gone missing in the past one month. During investigation, SHO Manjit Singh of Sadar police station found that Geetanjali, a resident of Gandhi Nagar locality, had been missing from her house. Preliminary investigation such as matching of clothes, etc, indicated that the body was that of Geetanjali. On sustained interrogation, Rajkumar confessed to having killed her,” Rohtak SP Pankaj Nain said while addressing mediapersons here today.

Rajkumar has been arrested and will be produced before a court tomorrow.

Rajkumar had married Geetanjali, a native of Gada Camp in Jalandhar, in 2010. They had a son and a daughter. However, Geetanjali fell in love with her husband’s brother-in-law Rakesh, a resident of Nanakpuri in Kaithal.

The SP said DNA samples of the body parts found from different locations would be matched to scientifically establish that it was of Geetanjali. The DNA samples would also be matched with those of Geetanjali’s parents.
