Raj Kumar Chhanena, regional director of the National Commission of Scheduled Castes (NCSC), today said the panel was monitoring the police investigation into the unnatural death of Dalit girl, who was gang-raped, and Gulshan, a Balmiki youth, both residents of Jhansa village.

After meeting the families of the deceased, he said the parents of the deceased girl did not lodge any complaint before them and had shown satisfaction over the ongoing police investigation. However, the family members of Gulshan, whose body was found from a canal, had levelled serious allegations against the police.

“Necessary directions will be given to the authorities concerned after analysing the case progress. We have not been given any deadline for the police probe. There is no witness and the police need time to collect evidence. We do not want any innocent person suffer in the name of expediting probe,” he said.

He said the NCSC had no power to grant any financial assistance to the family of the victims as only the government could do the same.
