The new building of the Municipal Corporation’s (MC) office will come up on 3.87 acres near the Panchayat Bhawan in Yamunanagar.

The cost of the project will be Rs 28.28 crore and tenders have been floated for the construction of a multi-storey building. As per the MC authorities, the existing office building has limited space and is in a bad condition.

Mayor Madan Chauhan said there would be double-storey parking facility in the basement of the building so that there was no problem in parking vehicles, which was being faced in the current building.

“There will be offices of Mayor, Commissioner, Executive Officer and other officials of the MC on the ground floor, first floor and second floor,” Chauhan said.

“An auditorium will also be made to hold meetings of the House. The new MC office building will be constructed within 18 months as per the terms and conditions of the tender,” he added.

The existing office building is in Yamunanagar town but the new building will be constructed at the centre of twin cities of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri.

“The new office building will come up at the centre of Yamunanagar and Jagadhri. It will be 2-km away from the Jagadhri bus stand as well as the Yamuanagar bus stand. After the construction of the new building, the residents of both towns will have to travel almost equal distances to reach the MC building,” said Pankaj Kumar, a resident of Yamunanagar.
