A group of hoteliers in Thanesar city of Kurukshetra have decided to boycott OYO, a company providing online booking of hotel rooms, from today.

The decision taken by the hoteliers will hurt tourists who used to find hotel rooms at cheaper rates online.

Babu Ram Taya, an hotelier, said, “We got into an agreement with the company as it promised to improve our business. But there have been several issues following which nearly 25 hoteliers have decided to stop working with OYO in Kurukshetra.

“Our experience with the company hasn’t been good. A major issue that we faced was that the company reduced tariff of the rooms without informing the hotel owners. Instead of making a profit, we have been incurring losses as the company was not even giving us the money of the rooms booked on time,” said Babu Ram.

Deepak Saini, another hotelier, said, “The room for which the hoteliers used to charge between Rs1,200 and Rs1,500 were being provided for Rs500 to Rs600. There have been incidents when the people who have booked rooms online don’t arrive. But due to the booking, we are not able to give the room to other customers. We have stopped taking OYO bookings from today.”

An association of hoteliers will be announced on Monday.

A representative of the company said only OYOcould release a statement on the issue.
