Voter lure: 239 ladies’ suits seized

KURUKSHETRA:The police on Friday seized 239 ladies’ suits that were reportedly meant for voters in a slum area of the Thanesar Assembly constituency.

Kurukshetra, October 18

The police on Friday seized 239 ladies’ suits that were reportedly meant for voters in a slum area of the Thanesar Assembly constituency. Duty magistrate Yashbir Singh got a tip-off that Nandu, a contractor, had stored ladies’ suits and liquor at his house in Kirti Nagar here to lure voters. He, along with the police and other officials, conducted a raided at Nandu’s house but nothing incriminating was found. The raiding team, however, found suits from the houses of his four neighbours. The women of the four houses told the police Nandu and his servant had kept the suits at their places.

Sources said the suits were brought to Kirti Nagar on Thursday night and were to be distributed on Saturday. Congress’ Thanesar candidate Ashok Arora alleged BJP leaders were to distribute the suits. “I have filed a complaint with the EC,” he said.

BJP leaders, however, refuted the claims. — TNS
