Social justice dept awarded for best disabled-friendly website

CHANDIGARH: The Centre has awarded the Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Department for having best accessibility features of its website designed for people with disabilities.

Chandigarh, December 4

The Centre has awarded the Haryana Social Justice and Empowerment Department for having best accessibility features of its website designed for people with disabilities.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu honoured Principal Secretary Neerja Shekhar on December 2 in New Delhi on the occasion of World Disability Day.

The department had revamped its website for the visually challenged with the facility of magnifying texts up to 200 per cent, screen readers and text alternative of images. It even offers the facility of colour contrast for the colour blind. It has also taken up the project to revamp all 62 government websites.

As of now, 48 websites have been made disable-friendly.

In such websites, scanned images of text have not been used, instructions provided for understanding and operating content do not rely solely on sensory characteristics such as shape, size, visual location, orientation or sound, and colour is not used as the only visual means of conveying information. — TNS
