UNA, JULY 7

Former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on Saturday said after putting in 55 years of service, he had no desires in politics now.

Addressing a public gathering in Bhanjal village in Gagret, he said he only wanted to ensure the Congress victory in all Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Virbhadra said his political career started with Jawaharlal Nehru and continued when Rahul Gandhi was the president of the party. He wanted to see Rahul Gandhi as the Prime Minister, adding that the promises made by Narendra Modi to grab power had not been fulfilled.

He said he had started a campaign to instill confidence in the workers of the party for the Lok Sabha elections.

Later, replying to questions by mediapersons, the former CM said Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu should resign from the HPCC president’s post in the interest of the party. He had discussed the matter with the party high command.

It was time for Congress workers to be motivated to take on the BJP. Taking a dig at the state government, he said Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was surrounded by people who were misguiding him. He urged the CM to ensure equal distribution of funds in all areas.

Virbhadra later addressed another public meeting at Basal village of Kutlehar. Leader of the Congress Legislative Party Mukesh Agnihotri, Sujanpur MLA Rajinder Rana, former MLAs Rakesh Kalia and Bumbar Thakur, besides district Congress president Varinder Dharmani, were also present.
