Dharamsala, September 23

Allegations levelled by television actress Karishma Sharma that she had to face eve-teasing during a recent trip to Dharamsala has the Kangra police on edge.

Sharma, in an interview in Mumbai, said she had come to Dharamsala to take a break from her hectic schedule. But during a trip to a temple when she was clicking photos with friends, a group of people started staring at her. When she complained it to a local policeman, he ignored it, she alleged. Sharma alleged that the persons followed her till a local shop and also the monastery. “I had to cut short my visit due to this incident,” the actress said.

Kangra SP Santosh Patial said the incident was never reported to police. However, after listening to her interview, the police are verifing the allegations levelled by her. “At present, we do not have any information about her stay in Dharamsala,” the SP said.

“When did she come here, where did she stay, when did she return and where exactly the incident occurred? All these aspects are being looked into. We have CCTV cameras at many places in McLeodganj and will try to verify as to who was trying to harass the actress. However, we haven’t got any clue to date,” he said.

Sources said the actress had said in her interview that there were lakes in Dharamsala. But there is only one lake — Dal — in the Naddi area. The police are trying to verify if the actress stayed there.
