Kangra, January 9

The elections to the municipal councils, block samitis, zila parishads and panchayats will be held tomorrow.

The polling staff have reached all 311 stations to ensure fair and smooth poll.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Debasweta Banik today said 173 polling stations had been set up in Kangra and 138 in Nagrota Bagwan.

She said the polling, scheduled to start at 7 am, would be held for 27 panchayats of Kangra and 22 panchayats of Nagrota Bagwan. Voting will also be held for the municipal councils of Kangra and Nagrota Bagwan.

For the remaining 26 panchayats of Kangra and 22 panchayats of Nagrota Bagwan, the polling would be held on January 12, Banik said.

The SDM said the counting of votes for the Kangra Municipal Council would be held at the polytechnic college and in the municipal council building at Nagrota Bagwan.

She said 42 polling stations were declared hyper-sensitive and 65 sensitive out of 226 polling stations in this subdivision where 1,33,580 voters would cast their votes for electing Panchayati Raj representatives in both phases.

Debasweta Banik said more than nearly 67,000 voters were expected to cast their vote in the first phase.

Meanwhile, women were seen going from door-to-door seeking votes for them in different panchayats as the number of women in the fray was higher than that of men.
