Una, March 25
The day-long drama at the district hospital on the issue of a newborn baby girl having gone missing finally ended late last night with the intervention of the police, though no case was registered.
On the intervening night of March 22 and 23, a woman gave birth to a baby girl. She is married in Punjab, but had come at her parental house here for delivery. The woman already has a six-year-old daughter.
The woman’s mother informed her in-laws that a stillborn baby was born and was subsequently buried. The girl’s in-laws got suspicious and reached the Una hospital. They demanded to see the body of the infant and sought the delivery records from the labor room and CCTV footages of the hospital.
As per the hospital records, a healthy baby girl was born. As the situation started worsening, the hospital authorities sought the intervention of the police.
After interrogation, the woman’s mother revealed that since her daughter already has a girl child and her in-laws were not well-off, she decided to give the baby to a family that promised to look after the child well.
The baby was handed over to a female class IV employee of the hospital and was later sent to Hamirpur district. However, the baby was brought back and handed over to the parents.
According to police sources, no case was registered as criminal intention could not be made out.
