Mandi, June 16
The Bar Association, Mandi, has urged Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur not to interfere in the working of Himachal Pradesh State Administrative Tribunal.
The Chief Minister had recently stated that the government might abolish the tribunal.
Members of the HP State Administrative Tribunal (Central Zone), Mandi, and District Bar Association have said if abolished, lakhs of employees would face harassment.
Surender Pal Parmar, president of the tribunal, said 100 to 150 cases were disposed of during the week-long circuit every month in Mandi.
“During each circuit, about 250 cases of employees of Mandi, Kullu, Lahaul-Spiti, Bilaspur and Hamirpur are listed," he added.
The association said the tribunal was delivering justice at the doorstep and that the government should provide permanent benches in Mandi and Dharamsala.
"Instead of abolishing the tribunal, the government should fill vacant posts. The Chief Minister should strengthen circuit benches in Kangra and Mandi,” he added.
