The Punjab Government and Shoolini University have agreed on the establishment of an international standard research university in Punjab. Documents pertaining to the expression of interest were exchanged during the Progressive Punjab Investors’ Summit in Mohali between Punjab Technical Education (PTU) and Secretary, Employment Generation, Rahul Tiwari and Shoolini University Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Atul Khosla. Shoolini University will make an investment of Rs 750 crore over a period of 10 years and will provide direct and indirect employment to about 1,500 persons. It will provide an opportunity and platform to Punjabi NRI scientists to come back and contribute to their state. Professor Khosla said the proposed campus would provide world-class education to over 5,000 students with proven career and opportunities. Besides, the proposed campus would provide an incubation ecosystem for food processing, biotechnology and other related start-ups. 

NCC cadets regulate traffic

NCC cadets of Rajkiya Kanya Maha Vidyalaya, Shimla, regulated traffic at various places of the city. As many as 10 cadets were engaged in the traffic control duty. They also apprised commuters of traffic rules. Under the supervision of Capt Laxmi, cadet Preeti regulated traffic near the railway station, Peatibha Kanwar near the AG office, Sonika at Winter Field, Kanchan Sharma at the Old Bus Stand, Anjali Dhiman at Panchayat Bhawan, Meera Thakur at the local bus stand, Rekha near Ripon Hospital, Sejal Thakur at Cart Road, Promilla Khachi at the Lift and Sanjana  Rana at the High Court.

Poster-making competition

As per the directions of the Additional Chief Secretary (TE) to the state government and managing director, HPKVN, to organise/conduct an activity on the prevention of drug abuse and alcoholism, a poster-making competition was held. Book distribution for add-on graduate programme was held at Rajiv Gandhi Government Degree College, Chaura Maidan. The principal encouraged students to attend classes every day and participate in extra-curricular activities. 

NSUI rally in Delhi on Dec 10

The state unit of the NSUI will mobilise its members to ensure that maximum number of workers from Himachal participate in the “Chatra Akrosh Rally” to be held in Delhi on December 10. The state executive of the NSUI, which met here to take stock of the situation, was informed by the NSUI state general secretary, Manoj Chauhan, that the rally would be led by national president Neeraj Kundan. It would start from Mandi House and culminate at Parliament. Issues like fee hike, growing unemployment and privatisation and commercialisation of education would be highlighted. Thousand of girls and boys would gherao Parliament.     

ADC visits St Bede’s College

Shimla ADC Apoorv Devgan visited St Bede’s College to make the students aware of the much talked about topic — drug abuse. He gave an informative speech, talked about various aspects of drug abuse and how to curb the tendency. He also gave a presentation on drug abuse. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr Geetanjali Mahendra.
