Rain hampers road restoration work

SHIMLA: While Himachal is limping back to normal after intermittent heavy rain last week, heavy rains at some places during the day have hampered the restoration works and 20 more roads were blocked on Monday, raising the total number of roads shut to 93.

While Himachal is limping back to normal after intermittent heavy rain last week, heavy rains at some places during the day have hampered the restoration works and 20 more roads were blocked on Monday, raising the total number of roads shut to 93.

State capital Shimla and the adjoining areas were lashed by heavy showers this afternoon and 33 mm and 37 mm rains were recorded at Shimla and adjoining tourist resort of Kufri within a short span of 45 minutes.

Dharamsala was the wettest in the region with 40 mm rains, followed by Kangra 30 mm, Kheri 29 mm, Amb 20 mm, Beer 17 mm, Jogindernagar 10 mm, Palampur 8 mm, Nagrota Suriyan and Kasauli 7 mm and Chail 6 mm.

The local MeT office has warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places in lower and mid hills on August 21, 22 and 24 and predicted rains and thundershowers at many places in mid and lower hills and rains or snow in higher hills from August 21 to August 25. The maximum of 37 roads were closed in Shimla zone, 26 in Kangra zone, 25 in Mandi zone and four in Hamirpur zone.

The day temperatures increased marginally and stayed above normal.
