Thakur lays stones of water scheme, power substations

“The Congress-led governments had left the state bankrupt and it was reeling under debt of over Rs 46,000 crores when we took over the reigns,” said Jai Ram Thakur while addressing a public meeting at Daruhi village after inaugurating the building of Himachal Pradesh Technical University near here today.

The Chief Minister dedicated works of Rs 135 crore today. The biggest was Gasota water supply scheme worth Rs 38 crore. He said that the scheme would benefit a population of around 1 lakh people of the district.

Appreciating the efforts of the HPTU, he said that over 17,000 students were admitted to various courses in its affiliated colleges. He said the university should work to educate students as per industry demand. He assured that funds would not be a constraint for providing quality education to students. He announced a recurring grant of Rs 10 crore to the university.

The Chief Minister announced a sub tehsil at Lambloo in Hamirpur constituency on the demand of local MLA Narender Thakur.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of a water supply scheme, Gasota, and of 33/11 KV sub stations at Lambloo and Khangal to be constructed by spending Rs 38.31 crore, Rs. 5.50 crore and Rs. 8.11 crore, respectively. The two substations would benefit a population of over 70,000 of 81 villages of 22 panchayats.

Later, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of the office of District Welfare Officer to be constructed by spending an amount of Rs 2.24 crore.

The Chief Minister inaugurated an indoor stadium at Neta Ji Subhash Chander Bose Post Graduate Degree College, Hamirpur, constructed at a cost of Rs 7.74 crore. He laid the foundation stone of an EVM warehouse to be constructed by spending Rs 5.15 crore and inaugurated an Inspection Hut of Irrigation and Public Health and an office building of Commandant Home Guards.

Speaking on the occasion, Anurag Thakur, Minister of state for Finance and Corporate Affairs, said the efforts would be made to make the HPTU an incubation and innovation hub. He said that he would help in providing technology exposure to the students. He said the university should also make a project to provide sports facilities to the students on the campus.

Earlier, Prof SP Bansal, Vice Chancellor, detailed the achievements of the university and said that it was his dream to provide quality education to the students.
