Srinagar, February 23

The police on Saturday detained a man for attempting to unfurl the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar.

The police identified the man as Deepak Sharma, a resident of Haryana, and said he was affiliated with the Akali Dal.

The incident happened on Saturday morning when Deepak reached the Clock Tower at Lal Chowk with the Tricolour. However, he was nabbed by the police while he tried to hoist the flag and raised slogans.

The atmosphere is already tense after the speculation about the abrogation of Article 35A of the Constitution and tension mounting on the border along the Line of Control in Kashmir and Jammu regions.
