Bhagat Singh row: JU probe panel seeks more time

JAMMU: The inquiry panel, constituted by the University of Jammu (JU) to look into the controversy that erupted after a senior professor termed freedom fighter Bhagat Singh as a terrorist, on Thursday sought more time for submission of its report to the varsity.

The inquiry panel, constituted by the University of Jammu (JU) to look into the controversy that erupted after a senior professor termed freedom fighter Bhagat Singh as a terrorist, on Thursday sought more time for submission of its report to the varsity.

The panel, constituted on November 29, was asked to file its report within seven days — a deadline that ended on Thursday.

“We are holding interactions with different sections of the students and faculty members to look into the issue in a broader way,” said Professor Keshav Sharma, Dean, Academic Affairs, JU, and head of the panel. Meanwhile, students held a protest on the university campus and gheraoed Dr M Tajuddin who was called for recording his statetment before the inquiry panel. The university authorities called the police, who escorted him to safety. — TNS
