Jammu, May 18

The Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) is likely to introduce short-term market-oriented skill-enhancing courses from the new academic session 2019-20.

The motive is to ensure that the pass-outs have the knowledge, skills and aptitude for gainful employment in general and self-employment in particular.

The university has already issued a notification for the entrance-based courses which are to be run by its five constituent colleges — GGM Science College, Government MAM College, SPMR College of Commerce, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, and Government College of Education, Canal Road.

The Cluster University of Jammu Entrance Test-2019 will be held on May 21, while the result will be declared on June 1. Registrar, CLUJ, Jatinder Khajuria said the thrust would be on introducing courses in mathematics and accountancy.

“After the entrance test, the admission process for the UG courses in constituent colleges will be held from June 1 to 15. It will be followed by the display of the overall merit list on June 24. As far as the introduction of short-term courses is concerned, it will help the students to gain expertise,” the Registrar said.

“Looking at the present scenario, the introduction of diploma and certificate skill-based job-oriented courses in higher educational institutions is the need of the hour. At the end of three years, the students will be equipped with a certificate, diploma or advanced diploma in an add-on orientation course along with a conventional degree in science, arts or commerce,” he said.

Khajuria said the university was also planning to introduce long-term courses once the staff was strengthened to run the courses in a smooth manner.
