Director General of Police (DGP) Shesh Paul Vaid on Friday said the policemen would be equipped with body cameras for better policing.

“These cameras will help to keep an eye on the ground during a law and order situation and traffic management,” the DGP told reporters after declaring open the 16th J&K Police Martyrs’ Memorial Football Tournament-2018 at Synthetic Turf, TRC Ground, here on Friday.

The tournament is organised by the J&K Police annually under its Civic Action Programme.

In his address, Vaid said the tournament was being conducted regularly since 1998 in the memory of the police martyrs to pay tributes to them.

“The tournament not only provides us an opportunity to remember the hundreds of police personnel who have laid down their lives for the nation but also provides an opportunity to the players and budding talent of the Valley to show their capability,” Vaid said.

He said the police had last year spent approximately Rs 3 crore for various sports activities in the state. He said in order to attract more talent to the J&K Police, a sports policy had been submitted to the government for consideration.

The DGP said the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved two synthetic turfs for north and central Kashmir and hoped that a synthetic turf with floodlights would be approved for south Kashmir soon.
