Guv takes stock of J&K situation

SRINAGAR: Governor Satya Pal Malik reviewed the prevailing law and order situation and provision of basic and essential services to people at a meeting held here on Tuesday evening.

Governor Satya Pal Malik reviewed the prevailing law and order situation and provision of basic and essential services to people at a meeting held here on Tuesday evening.

K Vijay Kumar, KK Sharma, K Skandan, Farooq Khan, Advisers to Governor, and BVR Subrahmanyam, Chief Secretary, participated in the meeting. The Governor was apprised about the satisfactory law and order scenario in J&K.

Updating Malik about the availability of medical facilities, officers said healthcare services were being provided to the people without any hindrance. They said 13,500 people had been provided requisite treatment at OPDs and 1,400 new admissions had been done. Availability of all drugs, including the life-saving medicines, had been ensured in every hospital across the Valley.

The Governor was informed that the national highway continues to function normally and 100 heavy vehicles carrying LPG, and other essentials are plying on a daily basis, flights from the Valley are operating normally and 1,400-1,500 light motor and other vehicles are plying daily.

While being briefed about the preparations for Independence Day, the Governor was apprised that the full dress rehearsal for the function was held in every district of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh and the necessary arrangements were in place for the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

The Governor has asked all deputy commissioners to direct sarpanches to hoist national flag in their respective panchayats on Independence Day.

The Governor was also informed about the Supreme Court’s decision where while hearing a petition on Jammu and Kashmir seeking withdrawal of restrictions, the court left the matter to the government.
