Srinagar, February 7

PDP district president from Baramulla Irshad Rasool Kar quit the party on Thursday.

“I was district president in Baramulla and have resigned from the basic membership of the party,” Irshad said, adding that he submitted his resignation to PDP president Mehbooba Mufti. He, however, did not divulge the reason for his action.

Son of veteran Congress leader late Ghulam Raool Kar, Irshad had also unsuccessfully contested Assembly election from Sopore in 2014 as an Independent candidate. Irshad’s sister Masarat Kar is a PDP leader. Irshad has quit the party at a time when Lok Sabha elections are likely to take place in the next few months.

After the fall of the PDP-BJP government in June last year at least five minister and two former MLAs have resigned from the PDP.
