Jammu, September 2

Traders continued to protest against the recent demolition drive launched by the traffic police and the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) to implement the plan to divert traffic from Sarwal.

They alleged that the authorities were harassing the business community in the name of an anti-encroachment drive.

They appealed to the Governor’s administration to take immediate decision on the construction of new flyovers and alternative roads in Jammu so that traffic mess was addressed.

“The administration should start the metro project and another ring road from Amphalla to Janipur, which should connect the High Court to ease the pressure on the narrow New Plot and Sarwal roads,” said Sunil Dimple, a local trader.

Protesters also expressed their anger towards the Mayor and elected councillors for not standing with the people who are facing a lot of problems.

“Demolition and dismantling the traders’ establishments is not the solution. There is a need to create new road infrastructure in Jammu to meet the demands of the increasing population and vehicular traffic,” said Rajesh Sharma from Sarwal.
